Buses provide an efficient means of transporting people and they provide access to employment, goods and services to those without access to private cars or as an alternative to the private car. Buses frequently compete with private vehicles for road space and this impacts journey times and reliability; both of these result in increased operational costs and inconvenience for public transport users.
