Buses provide an efficient means of transporting people and they provide access to employment, goods and services to those without access to private cars or as an alternative to the private car. Buses frequently compete with private vehicles for road space and this impacts journey times and reliability; both of these result in increased operational costs and inconvenience for public transport users.
PTSL is experienced in developing bus priority solutions in New Zealand and our team has experience overseas, including London. Measures that we have developed include:
- Bus lanes and transit lanes.
- Bus queue jump facilities at intersections.
- Bus priority at intersections.
- Bus gates.
We work closely with our clients in developing solutions and have undertaken trials of bus lanes to demonstrate the benefits of the lanes. We have investigated bus routes from end to end to identify operational and efficiency issues for buses and developed packages of measures to address those issues.
