East Coast Road Bus Priority
Buses on East Coast Road between Forrest Road and Sunnynook Road were experiencing delays when travelling northbound. PTSL was appointed by Auckland Transport to investigate measures to improve bus journey times and reliability. The study examined the operation of the existing buses including bus journey times to identify locations where buses experienced delays and the associated level of service.
PTSL developed measures to assist the movement of buses including, modifications to the East Coast Road / Forrest Hill Roundabout, a northbound PM peak bus lane on East Coast Road and provision of pedestrian crossing facilities to aid pedestrians travelling to and from bus stops.
PTSL developed concept designs for the preferred arrangement, and estimated journey time savings based on traffic and spreadsheet modelling of the corridor.
