This study for Auckland Transport reviewed the operation of a number of bus routes in South and East Auckland. The review was for the whole length of each bus route and identified operational issues and points of delay or congestion for buses. The reliability of each bus service at peak and off-peak times was considered. The study included observing bus operations over the whole route, and assessment of bus journey time and delay information.
The locations of bus stops were reviewed including consideration of spacing between bus stops and the ease by which buses were able to enter and exit them. Opportunities for improving the operation of each bus route were identified and concept designs developed where improvements were required.
Vehicle tracking was undertaken for appropriate design and check buses to confirm any amendments to intersections or the road layout.
Auckland Transport used the format of the reviews as a guideline for other consultants to follow.
