Bus Route Minor Efficiency Improvements

PTSL completed a study for Auckland Transport to audit a range of bus routes with respect to the design of traffic calming and mountable roundabouts along existing bus routes.  The study was undertaken as a pilot to establish a methodology for reviewing other bus routes.

The review included an assessment to confirm whether the traffic calming was to an appropriate standard and whether changes to the design of the measures were required to improve the comfort for bus users and wear and tear on the buses themselves.

The study measured each traffic calming device in terms of critical dimensions (height, width, length, gradients) and observed how the buses travelled across the traffic calming measures.

Recommendations were made for the amendments of the devices to assist bus movements, including the positioning of bus stops in relation to the traffic calming measures.
